He really has the smile and rosey cheeks of Santa, huh?
Great beard too!

Pretty Little Girls

I am forever taking pictures, but usually I have to chase my subjects down, or sneak up on them, but at the Boyer get-together last Saturday night, this cutie requested a photo shoot.  She was specific about it, and she wanted her sister and cousin in the pictures after I took one of her alone.  This is Raelee, Jodie Lynn's oldest daughter.  I believe she and Andrew share a birthday.

Yes, now she wanted one with her sister and cousin.
Audrey on the left is Angie's daughter.

Raelee and Christalynn...sweet sisters
By the way, they have two brothers, but they will be
in the next post.

I love this one...I requested this pose.
The photographer should have a little say,
don't you think?

These are two of the cutest little faces, are they not?
These girls are cousins, but now I am here to tell
you, they are close.  I love this picture.

A Neat Little Song

Vicki, a sweet lady in our Sunday School Class
shared the words to this little song she was
taught in Sunday School as a child.

I thought it was neat and wanted to share...

I wish I could remember the tune.
Vicki sang it to me once, but I can't remember it.
I guess you will have to make up your own tune if
you want to teach it to your kids or grandkids.
It goes like this:

God is my Father,
Jesus is my Brother,
And the Blessed Holy Spirit is my Guide.
The Devil's no relation,
For I'm a new Creation
I'm a member of the family in the sky.

In Loving Memory of My Mother-in-Law

Audrey Marie Wingert Boyer
Died 28 years ago today, December 18, 1981

I can't believe it has been 28 years.  I always think about her more this time of year, not just because she died near Christmas, but because of what Christmas meant to her.  Christmas Eve was always a special treat to her because all of the family would gather at her home.  About a week before she went home to be with the Lord, Katie spent the day with her and they put up the Christmas tree and the nativity set. My mother-in-law expressed a great deal of joy and how much fun they had decorating.  Katie was four years old.

She struggled a few years with diabetes and heart disease, and she died suddenly of a heart attack, without notice or warning, and it was a shock to all of us.  It was interesting....the night we lost her, we left the hospital and went to the house, the gifts were all wrapped and labeled, the house was clean and everything organized...it was as if she knew it was her time to go and she had everything for Christmas Eve all prepared for us.  She was only 61 years old....the age I am now, seems so young...and we were not ready for her to go.

I was very young when David and I married, and immature I might add.  My dear mother-in-law was always good to me, but it took me several years to truly appreciate her for the special woman she really was. She was a true, hard working farm woman and she and my father-in-law raised seven children.  She worked very hard, loved and cared for her family, but most importantly she had a very sweet love of the Lord.  Audrey (always Mrs. Boyer to me) cared for her children and was a submissive wife.  She always took the children to church even while receiving harsh criticism from my father-in-law.  It was Audrey's continued faithfulness to love, lead, teach, and get the children to church that now leaves seven children, many grandchildren, and great grandchildren who are faithful Christians today.

She was a very talented seamstress, possessed a funny sense of humor, and was non-judgmental of others. She was also one of the most calm, laid back women I have ever known.  She leaves a very worthy legacy.  She continues to be missed by all of us.  We all loved you dearly.

Country Ventures

All of the grand kids seem to enjoy the country
and activities on the farm, but Gracie enjoys it
so much she will just walk all the way up to the
dairy barn alone....it matters not if anyone
goes with her.
Her daddy found an orphaned lamb and gave the
job of bottling the baby to her.  She was more than
willing to do that chore.

It looks like the lamb is perking up some now.
Gracie is a natural with animals.

Most of you know that we live right by a county cemetery...
well, this is not it.  The kids and I walked all over the
cemetery by our house.  They seemed to really enjoy
looking at the stones and reading the dates.
Because they were so intrigued, and Gillan especially
is interested in his ancesters, I decided it would be a
good thing to visit another nearby cemetery where several of
my daddy's family members are buried, so we ventured there.
It is difficult to read all of the stone in the picture, but
shown below is a picture of my daddy's parents stone.
Great great grandparents of my grandchildren.

Thanksgiving Prep and the Big Day

Katie (alias Susie Homemaker) made seven, yes that is right--
she baked seven PIES, as hubby and the boys closely watched
in amazement. Oh, and the pies were great!

My Daddy seemed to enjoy himself and ate a
fair amount, for him. He was not
without his hat or tobacco juice chin either.
It's just part of him.
Love you Daddy!

Besides cooking, eating, dishing up plates of food to go home
with the folks, and clean up....we were able to share a few
laughs and talk much.
Looks like I missed a few folks. I didn't catch the kids for
a picture here, but I do have some. Just continue to read each
day and there will be more to come. It is hard to get Rudy in the camera's eye.
He glares at me with that, I really wish you wouldn't look.
Can't say as I blame him, because I don't like my picture
taken either.
Sister, I took one of you, but it was really blurry....sorry,
I should have taken more than one picture.
It would have been fun to count the number of cell phones
in use during our visit.

Craig catches me taking pictures every time.
Thanks for the smile Craigie Poo!

We added on this year....I hope you felt welcome Brandon.
It was good to have you with us.

Brother-in-law Bill

My sweet daughter-in-law gave me a beautiful smile.
Thanks, Christy.

My David talking...I think a good time
was had by all. Thanks for being here.

Post Thanksgiving

We have this little stream, brook, or spring of water on the dairy...you take your pick.... the kids just love it.  It is really very shallow and full of nature, unless of course, we have had too much rain.  In the summer it is often bone dry and in other seasons it floods.

These boys are buddies and adventurerous.

I followed along with Gillan and Andrew
last Friday after Thanksgiving to check it out.

This picture is enlarged so that you can see the etchings
on this down and dead tree.  The boys said, "these etchings (carvings) are words
written by the Indians.  I must say, they were a bit
mysterious. What do you make of it?

"Outstanding In Our Field"

Yes, we were out standing in our field,

And, sitting out in our field,

and opening gates.

Milking cows, or at least posed to milk cows.
You see, Sam from the State Farm Bureau Office
came to take pictures for the State Farm Family contest.
And, he made the rounds.....so see below for a
quick tour of our farm.

The Jersey cows have their own cooling pond.

They still have some green grass, as well.

The cows have a covered barn for their feed.
I would say these cows have it made.

The boys enjoy bottling the babies sometimes.

Awe...they are cute...boys and calves.

And, then there are the sheep.

Sam moved on to take pictures of the beef cows.

Nathan and I standing outside the calf barn.

And, we are still standing.
Standing together after 43 years of marriage,
and 31 years on this farm in the dairy business.
I love standing by this man!  I love this man!

To quote a brief part of our application for
the State Farm Family from David....
"Our family is not unique in Oklahoma.  There are many
outstanding farm families.  We believe that our family is representative of the many others because we love the land and animals passionately.  We are good stewards of that which God has entrusted us.  We attempt to promote a positive future for agriculture in Oklahoma.  We have been involved in various agriculture organizations and activities both for youth and adults."
"We have endured drought, floods, ice storms, fires, serious health issues, agriculture loan crises, and low prices.  We are in the midst of the greatest dairy cost-return crisis in 31 years."
"If there be anything that would uniquely qualify our family to represent Oklahoma agriculture, maybe it would be that perhaps we have a stronger passion to survive and succeed than many.  There are not many who remain in the dairy business."
And again I say....We are still standing....standing together.

Note:  We were the Muskogee County Farm Family.  We did NOT win the state competition.
