Texas Visit

 FRIDAY NIGHT FOOTBALL

There was lots of activity in Texas last weekend with the granddads.  I will have to post this in segments.  We started our Friday night off with a ripping good football game.  I am not a huge football fan, but this high school game was really good.  Of course, the best part was my grandson who plays the Marimba for the school marching band.

The home team is in Blue and White.
Sulphur Springs Wildcats

The opposing teams marching band

And, the Wildcats Win!!!

 Gracie

 Saturday morning started early with a Junior High football game of Sulphur Springs Jr. High boys playing against each other.  Gracie was there to cheer.
And, cheer she did!

Go Team Go!  Cheer it up Gracie!!

As soon as the football game and cheering ended
we were off to Pizza Inn, and then on to a soccer game.
 Gillan left for a band competition about the same time.
Could I say - "busy"?  I am amazed at how the family
keeps up the pace of their schedules.

They are blessed with good parents.
The parents are blessed with good children.
We love all of you.

 Gracie is #3 in the purple shirt on the left below
and above.

Gracie is a go getter and loves to participate in
any sports activity.
Her soccer team won the game!!!  Go Gracie!
 ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Both of our grandkids in Texas live a very active life.
It was great to be part of it and see the activities they
participate in.
Sunday morning we attended their church, where we were
able to see Gillan lead the youth band, and Rudy teach
Junior High 7th grade Sunday School Class.  Gracie
is in that class.
Dairy Heifer Show
A New Family Adventure
Arkansas/Oklahoma State Fair
I think Andrew likes the Jersey heifers the boys
gentled down to show.  Josh and Andrew, along with
their Mom, Dad, and Grandpa spent many hours
preparing for this day.
The picture above is like a sweet blast from the past.
Katie working with her daddy at a heifer show.
No comment needed here.
 Nathan is entertained no matter where he is.
He is playing with a new birthday gift....Star Wars -
with a heifer right beside him in the dairy barn at the fair.
  He is a happy boy!
 The boys are doing what they came to do, and
doing it well for first timers.
 Check that Red Ribbon out in Josh's back pocket.
 All of us were tired by this time.
It was hot and dusty.
 This was another class they showed in.  The judge liked
the boys three heifers on the end, but no way could they compete
with the much older, larger heifers.
 This is a crew.....I love all of these guys.
They won a red ribbon and a few blue, but the
important thing is the experience gained.
Showing cattle is a family affair...
Quality family time.
Okay, okay.....I stole this picture from Katie's facebook.
I just love the look she captured here.
Looks like some very contented young heifers.
Blue Moon
The Moon
by Emily Dickinson
The moon was but a chin of gold
A night or two ago,
And now she turns her perfect face
Upon the world below.
Her forehead is of amplest blond;
Her cheek like beryl stone;
Her eye unto the summer dew
The likest I have known.
Her lips of amber never part;
But what must be the smile
Upon her friend she could bestow
Were such her silver will!
And what a privilege to be
But the remotest star!
For certainly her way might pass
Beside your twinkling door.
Her bonnet is the firmament,
The universe her shoe,
The stars the trinkets at her belt,
Her dimities of blue.
I am proud of my two moon shots.  I have tried many times to get a good picture of the moon, to no avail.  The full moons have been fascinating recently.  I made several attempts last week to get a good picture and I was able to get these two.  No editing! Straight out of the camera. It was a very dark night, but the moon was shining bright.  In the top photo I purposely took the shot through the trees in my front yard, the moon was low.  The second one was taken out in the wide open spaces on the farm.
Maybe you are like me and didn't know or remember all of the facts about the moon, blue moon, full moon, and such.  I have added some interesting facts below from the internet.
FYI - Blue moons aren't actually blue, unless clouds of smoke or volcanic ash in Earth's atmosphere lend them that particular hue. Rather, they usually look like any other full moon in the sky.
Friday's full moon was the second one to rise during the month of August, following the full moon of Aug. 1. This qualifies it as a blue moon, according to the popularly accepted (but incorrect) definition of the term.
"Blue moon" originally referred to the third full moon in a season that has four full moons instead of the usual three. But in 1946, a writer for "Sky and Telescope" magazine erroneously reported the second-full-moon-in-month meaning, and the definition stuck.
Friday's blue moon rose on the same day that late astronaut Neil Armstrong was memorialized in Cincinnati. Armstrong, the first person to walk on the moon, died Aug. 25 following complications from a recent heart surgery.
Children Are Priceless
I found this on facebook on a friend's page.
I hope she doesn't mind that I am sharing it here.
I just thought it was so cute and so true.
I know all parents hope they helped fill their
children's buckets with self-esteem.
Family Resemblance
Katie and I have been fascinated with the family resemblances for a long time.  I have posted some of the these pictures, if not all, but not at the same time.  See if you see the "look a likes".
Below is Jody, David's brother on the left and our son
Rudy on the right.
Below is Angie, who is Jody's (above) daughter with
our daughter Katie on the right.
True, Angie looks a little like her daddy and a lot like her mother
and Katie looks a little like her brother, and a little like her mother.
Are you still with me?
Below (on the left) is my great niece Lexie, of course she
is my sister Carole's granddaughter.  Gracie, on the right
is my granddaughter, and Rudy is her daddy.
You might be totally lost with it all, or could care less,
but genetics totally fascinates me.
How about your family resemblances?
Soaring Hot Temperatures
Remember when there was lush green grass?  Remember when the trees had green leaves and provided shade?  Remember when you could go outside without dozens of grasshoppers trying to attack you?  Remember when we had rain?  No, I didn't think so.  Just a reminder to self that the seasons do change and we will see cooler temperatures again some day, but right now we are keeping a steady 110-112 degree temperatures.  Lord, send some rain.  Can't you please send some rain??............Katie sings a neat song about asking the Lord to "send some rain".
Awesome Grandkids
Here are all of the grandkids except Gillan.
More on Gillan and Gracie in the previous post.
Left to right:  Andrew, Nathan, Gracie girl, and Joshua.
 I have to be the most blessed grandma ever!
Number 1 Grandson
This young teen....soon to be 15
made me a first time grandma,
Therefore, I call him my #1 grandson.
I longed to be a grandma and I do love all
five of my grandchildren with all of my heart and soul.
But, the first one did really brighten up my heart on first sight.
Gillan feels a call on his life into ministry of some type.
He is very musically inclined - gifted and talented.
He cares about people and their needs.
I can't help it, but this picture looks almost angelic
in this Grandma's eyes.
Thank you Gillan and Gracie for the visit to see us
this week.
We truly enjoyed having you and Gracie here for
a few days.  I know you both have so many
activities, but you both made time for us and we
appreciate it.
Gracie was my second born and only granddaughter.
She will soon be 13....much too soon for me.
She is cheerful, fun and delightful.
She is growing up and gets prettier every day.
Gracie I enjoyed our visit to the Tea Room with
you and your Aunt Katie.
We all think you are pretty special.
You are equally talented in so many ways.
Singing, soccer, and more.
You are a joy to be around.
So Gracie, you are my Number 1 (first) granddaughter.
 I love you girl!!
Wild Flowers and Butterflies
Black-Eyed Susan
The masses of yellow flowers with black centers are beautiful.
But in truth, they are wild flowers.  Farmers would not want
them growing in their crop fields.
These flowers are in a cemetery just across the
fence from our home.  I can view them from my
window in the dining room.
I have read that the Black-Eyed Susan
is now being planted along highways and in some residential
areas for beautification.
 I chased all around my Rose of Sharon bushes this
afternoon, to catch some shots of these butterflies.
 Beauty and busyness of the butterfly amazes me.
