Lambs Go To VBS

David and I took a couple of little lambs to Vacation Bible School this year. The youngest little ones were a bit timid with the lambs, but the older ones were fascinated and asked lots of questions. The VBS theme was presented in the setting of Australia ...if you have helped anywhere in VBS this year you know all about it. David donned his straw hat and acquired a slight accent. The children responded back in like manner. Sheep are very plentiful in Australia and Jesus used sheep many times in his parables. It was fun and a great teaching time.

First Fruits of Labor

First, just let me say that I think this picture is hysterical. My photography is less than great anyway, but have you tried to get a picture of two young boys and a baby....it is a rare deal to get all three with eyes open and sweet smiles at one time....Andrew with closed eyes, Josh smiling from ear to ear, and Nathan, well I don't know what he was about....looks startled. Anyway, I have some better, but this is really about the watermelon.

The boys have wanted to plant watermelon for two or three years and we veto the idea. This year Katie let the boys really help with the garden, picking out seeds, planting, etc. ......so, we have watermelons! Funny thing is...none of us really know a cotton pickin' thing about growing watermelons, other than we like to eat 'em. We finally realized we had several growing and were anxious to try one. Yes, it looked a little small, but so pretty and green (Black Diamond variety).......the boys were beside themselves with excitement..not a hard thing to generate with them. Anyway, they took it home with such anticipation only to find it was still all white inside....not ripened!! Yuck!!! We are now patiently waiting and watching after getting tips from Papa....an old time water melon grower from way back...almost 91 years old and he still remembers the price he received for each one. He thinks $2.50 for a cantaloupe today is "out and out" robbery.

Rudy, Christy, Gillan, and Gracie....we sure hope the melons will be ripe when you come for your next planned visit.

Days with Grandma and Grandpa

This is my fifth post under today's date. Please see the others below. We were able to spend time with all five of our grandchildren last week. I always like to post pictures of things we do. I love blogging....and how you can record the memories of the things you do.

Spending time with the grandkids is one of my very favorite things to do.

We were able to do many things, I did not get pictures of everything, but many.
In addition to making cookies, riding the ponies, going to the movie, visiting great GrandPapa, sidewalk drawings, catching kittens, playing and playing with cousins, Katie took the kids to the Greenleaf pool to swim.

Gillan is so great about playing with Nathan.

Actually, we all went to the 3-D Movie - UP!
It was great, but the thing that was up most was the price.
It was an afternoon movie with only 10-12 people in the theater.
Grumpy grandma griped and started to call the deal off due to the
ridiculously high prices. When I asked at the ticket office what was up,
she replied, " it is the 3-D glasses".....gee, I have not been to a movie in a long time.
Last time I saw a 3-D movie the glasses were thick paper or plastic.
Oh well, it is just money as they say, and a grandma can't go back on her word. A good time was had by all.

Sidewalk Art

"The Pony Lady"

Aunt Sherron, or better known now as "The Pony Lady" brought this pony for the kids to ride. She and her husband Sid own and operate S & S Pony Parties in Lavaca, Arkansas. They have 13 ponies they use to ride children around on a carousel or in a buggy. It is a great business for her, because of her love of horses.

Sherron came to pick up Dixie and take her home due to the pony's foundered condition. She can care for her much better than we are able to. Dixie was her first born colt from a Shetland mare. Sherron said that Gracie is a natural on a horse.

Pony and Kids

Nathan, you can't be big enough to
